The first step in any real estate website search engine optimization (SEO) campaign is to determine your key phrases that you want to focus on for each page and eventually your entire real estate website. Key phrases are those words and phrases that are related to the real estate industry that you want your website to be found for in the search engines.
For example, if you're a real estate agent in Barrie, Ontario, one of your key phrases might be "Barrie Ontario real estate."
Don't choose your key phrases based on a hunch. Research them and spend time thinking about the relevant keywords for your area and expertise. Find out how many people are searching which phrases for real estate. Overture (a Yahoo company) has a key phrase research tool you can use for free. It's located at http://searchmarketing.yahoo.com/rc/srch/.
If you really want to get scientific about your real estate website keywords, you can sign up with WordTracker (www.WordTracker.com). It's not free like the Overture tool, but it's much more thorough. It includes all of the major search engines with its results.

I've personally looked at and reviewed each one of these sources, and found them to be very helpful and accurate when considering real estate website optimization.
